Notice for COVID-19 Hotspots: Movement of Exempt Activities across hotspots
Whilst movement of freight is an exempt activity - meaning freight operators are permitted to travel across state borders - this is not the case when moving through COVID-19 hotspots. COVID-19 hotspots are areas where a high number of outbreaks have occurred. The health departments in each state have put in place strategies to try to contain these outbreaks. Restricting movements through these areas and enforcing isolation are critical ways of reducing the spread of the virus. Freight operators need to be aware of the following: 'An exempt person who enters a designated area must self-quarantine for a period of 7 days if....they have traveled in the last 14 days to...areas decided by the Chief Health Officer and published on the Qld Health website (COVID19 Hotspots).' (effective from 8/4/20). If you have driven through any of the areas on the published list, and you intend to travel across the border into QLD, you must follow this directive. (Fines may apply).
The areas listed by Qld Health Chief Officer currently are the following NSW locations: Blacktown; Canterbury-Bankstown; Central Coast; Cumberland; Inner West; Ku-ring-gai; Northern Beaches; Randwick; Ryde; Sutherland Shire; Sydney (yet to verify exactly what just "Sydney" includes, ie, CBD?); Waverly; Woollahra. Failure to have been informed of this directive will not be considered when you're stopped and these penalties are applied. It is within every operator's interest to visit the webpage and get updated. It is not yet clear whether the same directives of self-quarantine apply within each state.
